Staying on top of current trends
- Clients hire you because you're an expert in your particular subject. You need to keep your knowledge fresh to stay ahead of your clients. Read blogs and news feeds. Attend conferences. Network with other people in your field. Follow social media accounts of key influencers. Be sure to read outside your industry or area of expertise, that will help you spot trends that might eventually affect your industry or your client's. For example, if oil are dropping or rising, that might have an impact on your client's business. With all the stuff going about privacy rights for consumers, that's probably impacting your clients. Know what those trends and think about how is this impacting my client. Some tips I use to stay ahead of these trends are creating a curated list of news feeds. I arrange them by topic and read them regularly. Make a list of books you wanna read over the course of a year, and stick to that commitment.
