- The daily scrum, or standup, is the heart of sprint execution. Time boxed to 15 minutes, it should be short and direct. Keeping this event healthy will keep your sprint delivery healthy, too. A common failure in this event is when your scrum lasts longer than 15 minutes. If you're seeing this fault on your team, the problem is due to a facilitation approach. You can step up your game as facilitator to help your team get back on track with these ideas. First, make sure the task or storyboard is the focal point of the standup. This simple step will keep everyone focused where they should be, on what they've done, what they're going to do, and sharing impediments that are slowing them down. Next, if you aren't already, make sure everyone is standing. This is true, even for distributed teams. When team members are sitting, scrum starts to feel like a meeting.
