- It takes a certain number of people with the right skills to get the job done. The question is, how do you make sure you have the right number and type of employees to meet your objectives? The first thing you need to do is decide how to staff your work plan. Let's say your team is responsible for the lawn care of five government properties. How many people do you need, and what do you need them to do, and given the seasonal need of lawn care, what type of employees do you need? Be flexible. Can you hire some full-time and some part-time people? What about temporary workers? Do they need to have experience, or can they be entry level or interns? Once you know who you need, think about the staffing realities you need to recognize. Does the budget or human resource policies dictate who, when and how you can hire? Does the union need to be consulted? Is politics a factor? How visible is this department? Are there existing government programs that can be leveraged to provide staff…
