- Apart from being fired, being passed over for a promotion is one of the worst feelings at work. And it's made even more painful when the person who did get the promotion is someone you work with. When you were playing sports as a kid, did your mom make you go congratulate the winner? Well, mine did, and I was a terrible athlete, so I had to do it a lot. Well, the same is true at work.
