- Apart from being fired, being passed over for a promotion is one of the worst feelings at work. And it's made even more painful when the person who did get the promotion is someone you work with. When you were playing sports as a kid, did your mom make you go congratulate the winner? Well, mine did, and I was a terrible athlete, so I had to do it a lot. Well, the same is true at work. To get over that everyone walking on eggshells around you feeling, you'll have to congratulate your coworker. And after congratulating, it's okay to acknowledge the fact that you wanted that promotion, too. You don't have to fake like you just didn't care.
