- [Instructor] Project management is made up of many activities from high-level to detailed, so it's no surprise that there are dozens of project management tools to choose from. Each tool has its own perspective on project management and its own unique set of pros and cons. In this course, I whittled down the list of tools to evaluate using the following criteria. Organizations of all sizes use project management. To make this course as useful as possible, I selected project management tools that work well for different sized companies. Four of the tools are more suited to small to medium-sized companies. I provide overviews of three tools that work for large enterprises with large project portfolios. To support both traditional project management, as well as agile methodologies, the tools in this course support both Gantt charts and agile boards. In some cases, you need to do some customization to mold the agile and kanban features to your organization's needs. Status tracking is a big part of managing projects. So these tools provide at least some means for tracking progress, such as milestones, status fields, and percent complete. Collaboration is a given in projects. For that reason, the tools in this course include collaboration features and integration with other collaboration software, such as Slack, Google Apps, and Microsoft Teams. In addition, I looked for tools that include dashboard and report features. Finally, I evaluate how well the tools satisfy project management requirements, like resource management, cost management, and portfolio management. The tools for small to medium-sized organizations tend to fall short in these areas, so you'll need to match their capabilities to your organization's needs.
