Similarity attraction bias

- Have you ever met someone and felt you had an instant connection with them? This could be someone at a social event or even at work. This connection could be based off of your personalities, gender, age, similar backgrounds, or one of many other factors. This same feeling of connections happens often in the recruiting and interview process. It's called similarity attraction bias and can seriously impact the decision-making process. When a recruiter or hiring manager feels this instant connection, or if the candidate makes you think she reminds me of me, or maybe even a candidate reminds you of someone else at work, proceed with caution because your bias is showing. Don't let the candidates personal attributes outweigh their true ability to perform the job. The similarity attraction bias is pretty obvious when you notice a workplace that is obviously homogenous.
