- Now in the closing moments of the job interview there are a couple of things to think about. One of them is good, old split the difference. What if you're asking for 27, they're offering you 25 and they say, "Well, how about we split the difference to pay you 26?" The answer is "No, I really can't do it for 26, it's got to be 27", and I guarantee they will crumble and go, "Oh, all right then, 27". And remember if they don't, you can always split the difference and say, "Well, let me see, I'm asking for 27, you're offering to split the difference, it's 26. How about 26, 500?". So you can always do that if you have to but 99 times out of a hundred, you won't have to. When they offer to split the difference it means they've already given up. They're happy to pay what you want. So if you just persist and say, "No it's got to be 27", you'll get it. But the other thing I want to say is be prepared to walk. In your mind…
