Shipping rules
- When we're shipping products in a global supply chain, we often need to coordinate the activities of many different companies and work inside the laws of several different countries. Over time, we've developed ways to help clarify each company's responsibilities and that makes it easier to deal with the challenges that pop up, like what happens when cargo is lost or damaged. Let's look at some of the issues you need to consider when you're shipping products. First of all, you need to be clear about the terms of your shipping contracts. For example, will the buyer pick the shipment up or should the shipment be delivered to the customer's facility? For shipping products within the US, the common terms are laid out in a set of rules called the Uniform Commercial Code. For shipping products internationally, the rules are called Incoterms.
