Another great way to gather information is to shadow someone else and their job. In this video, learn how to reach out and ask someone if you may shadow them.
- Once you figure out, hey, I really think I want this job, well, then it's time for you to shadow. So what is shadowing? Shadowing means you ask the person you feel like you really connected with if you could watch them work. You say, hey, I think your job is fascinating, and I'd love to see you in action. Can I come watch you for two to three hours? Or maybe even the whole day? My roommate was actually really interested in the medical field, but when she shadowed some doctors, she realized she got nauseous every single time there was blood and she hated the hospital environment. So she realized in high school, whoa, this is not the job for me. Again, she did this in high school and it was so powerful because she knew from the very beginning that med school was not going to be for her. So she didn't waste any time, energy or effort doing that. Shadowing is really powerful because you get to see the job in real life. You get to see the patients and the clients. You get to see the way the engineer or the medical doctor or the lawyer interacts. And you really get a feel for what the day-to-day job is like.
