- [Instructor] The last step in the desired state is establishing your long-term goals. This is your first step in truly defining action in the strategic planning process. Long-term goals are where you articulate specifically how you are going to accomplish the vision, the mission, while ensuring alignment with your core values. In other words, if you are going to achieve your vision, carry out your mission, then you need to define where you are going to focus and what priorities you will set. Before we jump in to the long-term planning process, I think it's important to talk about the difference between short-term goals and long-term goals. Short-term goals, which are something we will focus on later in this course, are the goals you establish as part of the process of achieving the long-term goals.
