Setting physical boundaries

- As we've discussed, unplanned telecommuting leads to all kinds of blurring of boundaries. You may not have loved your office, but at least you had a quiet place to work that was probably free if the dried up slime that your daughter made. We can't totally replicate your office at home, but we can enact three types of physical boundaries that help improve your work focus, physical space, visual space, and quiet. No matter where in your home your workspace is and no matter how many people are living with you, physical boundaries are important. You need a physical marker. If you're using your dining room table, you need to denote a workspace dining room table and a home dining room table. Even just spending a little bit of time setting up in the morning making that transition, adding file folders or notepads or a pencil cup, whatever can help you get in the frame of mind of work will be helpful.
