- You've just been given a big task. It might be that you need to create a training department from scratch, or you've had a huge training initiative dropped on your lap, or you've just taken over a struggling, or even successful, training department, and now you don't know what to do. The first thing you need to do, after catching your breath, is to set proper expectations. Many people within your organization will have wildly divergent ideas about what to expect from the training department. You'll no doubt receive unsolicited ideas about online delivery of instruction, development parameters, and even how much it should cost. Your coworkers will want one thing, but your boss, they'll want something else. How do you ensure success? By properly setting expectations. In this LinkedIn Learning course, I'll share tips, instructions, and ideas that will help you to set the proper training expectations related to budget, obtaining buy-in, measuring training success, using third-party training providers, and quoting realistic estimates for the time it takes to develop the training. Once you're done with this course, you'll know what expectations need to be set and how to set them. Hi, I'm Karl Kapp, I've been creating online and instructor-led training for over 25 years. During that time I've been an instructional designer, started and grown a one person training department, and I've served as a consultant to many organizations who want to create better training for their employees. I'm eager to share with you my experience, lessons learned, and field tested ideas for setting the right training expectations. So join me in my LinkedIn Learning course on setting and managing realistic expectations for L&D programs.
