- Separate your business and personal finances. This is not going to directly affect your business credit reports. However, when it comes to financing, you're going to need to be able to demonstrate revenues in your business. This is where it's helpful to have a business bank account. For tax and financial purposes, I recommend you get a business bank account and start using it exclusively for your business as soon as possible. Step three, if your business does not already have a D-U-N-S number, you'll want to request one. You could do this even before you start to build credit references. In fact, it can take up to 30 days to get your D-U-N-S number issued. You can obtain a D-U-N-S number in one of two ways. The first is by using the free tool I'm going to give you to check, monitor, and build your business credit.
