Selecting the partners for an ecosystem
- How do you select partners for an ecosystem? The key is that the combination of partners has to give you an edge in the marketplace. A competitive advantage. To get the edge in a marketplace you need to select the right partners and there are four questions to ask here. The first one is, what kind of partners do you need and why? For example, if I'm trying to build a self-driving car I need the car itself. Then I need sensors and I need computing device and I need mapping. All of those are the partners in my ecosystem. The second question to ask is exactly which partners have the capabilities that I need. So, for example, what are their assets? What are their skillsets, what are their technologies? And what do I think about the future of these technologies and is that a good bet? The third question to ask as you're selecting partners for your ecosystem is how will these partners interact with each other? For example, will you have many of the same kind of partners?
