- So, how does all this brain science research apply to you in your everyday life and at work? Well, here's something I want you to consider. Your brain evolved for survival. It fundamentally seeks safety, security, and stability. So when you receive any unexpected news, whether at work or in life in general, our natural tendency is for our brain to go into like panic mode, into threat mode. There's a part of your brain called the fight or flight response known colloquially, but it's more specific. There are specific regions of the brain that will fire when you are compromised in your safety, security and stability. So how do most of us respond? We respond by being sad, S-A-D, with stress, anger, or disengagement. But as you'll learn in the following chapters, there are ways you can overcome being sad.
