- How many of you have a note or an email from a manager, coworker, or customer that said something nice about you? They may have complimented you on some extra work you did, a project that was successful, or the product or service you provided them was really terrific. I actually have a note from my first manager that he wrote to me over 30 years ago that said I was doing a really good job in my new role as a field representative. I've been lucky in my career to have worked with some terrific managers who motivated me to perform even better with positive reinforcement along with constructive criticism along the way. However, I did have a manager or two that I never heard anything good from them at all. They were of the school that if I achieved my sales targets, opened up some new business, and did my reports on time then that was just doing my job.
