Reporting and communication

- As the project progresses, it's essential for the project manager to keep stakeholders informed. Sometimes the information is used to make decisions and therefore, having concise, accurate information is essential. As the project manager, the first thing to do is to gather the information on progress, and there are a number of ways that this can be achieved. You could ask the teams to provide you with a formal report on a regular basis, say once a week. This is a useful format when you need to keep formal records or have an audit trail. Maybe you decide it's best to receive an email or a phone call update every few days. This format is less formal, but often appropriate when the team is highly skilled. Another approach is the daily standup, which is highly collaborative and transparent and is usually conducted in front of a team board, which could be physical or virtual.
