- Now that you have been introduced to Lean and Six Sigma separately, what exactly is Lean Six Sigma? Lean is all about the elimination of waste and maximizing value to customers. Lean eliminates waste and improves efficiency, flow, and speed, in the delivery of value to customers. On the other hand, Six Sigma DMAIC is very useful for determining the root causes or factors driving performance and variation. By determining the Y equals f of x, you can proactively and effectively control the Xs to achieve the outcome Y that's important to customers, consistently, with little or no variation. The primary focus of Lean is efficiency and waste reduction. While the primary focus of Six Sigma, is effectiveness in producing and delivering what's important to customers.
