Reframing the negative

- Do you ever feel like you're drowning in negative thoughts? When depressed people are negative they're not choosing to be like that. In the same way a stroke leads to the paralysis of the limbs depression leads to paralysis of parts of the brain. Depressed brains actually get stuck on negative thoughts and feelings. In this paralysis your brain is like a broken record of negativity and you always expect the worst. Here's an example. I once knew Max a senior executive who's company started taking a financial downturn he was asked to lay off a bunch of his trusted employees, then a big partnership deal he was really counting on, fell through. Suddenly he plunged into a deep depression, a time when he could only focus in the negative and constantly feared failure. When you're depressed you may not know why you always feel negative. Like Max, you might be afraid of failing as well. When you're depressed your mind gets stuck on the idea that you're a failure and repeats it over and over…
