Reframing the challenge

- Let's face it. Some things we have to do are really not that fun. Of course, you don't want to do them, but here are three strategies to reframe your thinking so those annoying or hard tasks feel a lot more manageable. First, you can remind yourself of times that you've done hard things in the past because that implies that you can do it again. Starting in a new job where you don't know anyone can feel overwhelming, but you did it when you went to elementary school or high school or college and you made it work. Second, a strategy my colleague Steven Martin likes to follow is thinking about how not doing something today will make him worse off in the future. Humans are often far more motivated by loss aversion, avoiding bad things, than they are by the prospect of gaining good things. So focus on bad consequences and you'll be much more inclined to take action. Third, call up the best version of yourself. There are times…
