- There's an old saying that goes, you can't manage what you don't measure. And if you don't measure as a solo-preneur, there's a good chance you won't measure up to your hopes and goals. While record-keeping may sound like book-keeping, it's not. Solo-preneurs should focus on record-keeping for marketing and sales. Here are there examples of record-keeping that I use myself and can work for you. First is tracking your prospects. I keep records of where revenue will likely flow through, commonly called pipelines. These are lists of your leads and opportunities for future business. If you have different services, products, or markets you might keep separate pipelines for each of those. You want to track potential clients so you can keep business coming in. My pipelines end up being a visual graphic of my sales activity. At just a glance I can tell if future revenue will be gushing through or barely dribbling in.
