- [Instructor] When I was a Greenhorn Assistant Professor focused on publishing research, I occasionally ran into statistics problems that I didn't know how to solve, or an odd statistical procedure that I was unfamiliar with. I knew some things about statistics, but I wasn't exactly a world-class statistician. At one point, I got so stuck that I decided to find an expert on the faculty and asked him for help. He answered my question but only after rolling his eyes and commenting, "I thought everyone learned that in graduate school. I guess you didn't." I got the solution I needed, but I felt so deflated by his comment that I couldn't work on the project for days after. The next time I needed help on a problem, I turned to him again, figuring that he must have simply been having a bad day on that previous occasion.
