- So you've asked for a pay rise and your boss has made perhaps some offer that wasn't exactly what you were hoping for. You're now in the bargaining phase. And I don't think there's going to be much bargaining. There's not going to be much backwards and forwards in this like they would be in a buying or selling situation. I think if they offer you less than you wanted but it's more than your walkaway point, you should just take it. It would feel bad to say, oh, I want more than that, I think just take it. And remember your walkaway point could be that you'll settle for any increase. Just try to get lots but settle for anything. Or it could be that you want quite a bit and you must get a reasonable amount. If you don't get a reasonable amount, you're going to walk. And you need to know exactly what that number is. You need to have that walk away point. It must be an exact number that you've decided. It must be clear in…
