- When I started in my career and I worked for my first captain I learned a lot of lessons that I wanted to implement as a captain. And I also learned things that I did not want to bring into my captaining. One of them is, I will never ask my crew to do anything that I will not do myself. I will always show my crew, I will lead by example, and if my crew need assistance I will be there to have their back. If I have my crew's back they're going to have my back. I believe that I have to show my crew the kind of leader that I am. It's almost like, it's not just because I'm their boss that they show up and they do everything I tell them to do. That's not a good leader. A good leader is someone who proves to the crew that they are also willing to go the extra mile for them as you ask of them. I go to this, assistance not resistance.
