- As the team leader, it's vital that you create psychological safety because your position of power or status naturally suppresses the team's ability to speak up no matter how warm and friendly you think you are. When I'm training team leaders and managers, I emphasize that the ability to create psychological safety is the most important skill, yet most people don't even know what it is, let alone how to create it. Here are four easy things you can start doing today. First, be accessible. Availability creates those opportunities for candor. When we rush off to the next thing, we lose those informal social exchanges that can be so valuable.
