Psychological safety: Clear blocks to problem-solving and innovation

(light music) - A leader's job, whether at the very top of an organization, somewhere in the middle or leading a frontline team, is the creation of a culture where people can do their best work. Culture is a leadership responsibility. Now, today, one of the most important aspects of culture is that it's psychologically safe. Psychological safety is defined as an environment where people believe that candor is welcome. They believe that they can speak up with work relevant thoughts of all kinds, questions, concerns, mistakes, you name it. When psychological safety is lacking, you're at risk for not innovating, you're at risk for people leaving, not being able to retain your talented employees, and, of course, you're also at risk of missing something really crucial. Psychological safety is simply an environment where learning can happen, where thriving, confronting, challenging, open conversations can happen, and that is one of the most important jobs for leaders today.
