- In business today, we love the idea of risk taking. But we don't love the reality of risks that end in failure. So this is a problem for leaders today. And the solution lies in making the right kinds of distinctions so that people really understand that some failures are mission-critical steps on the way to success, but some kinds of failures are indeed problematic. There are three kinds of failures, preventable failures which are clearly problematic, and those are the kind that happen when we have a clear process or a set of steps or guidelines that we're supposed to follow that reliably yield a particular result, and for whatever reason those processes were not followed and a failure happened.
