- When making decisions, all of us like to have options. It gives us a sense of agency and choice, and most executives and managers are used to making tough decisions each and every day. As a result, they're careful to consider all their options, and frankly, they're accustomed to having some. So when advocating for what you want at work, be prepared to present the options that you want your manager to focus on. If you get a no to your first request, be ready to pivot to a few other options for their consideration, and you might even want to prioritize your options to think about presenting your first choice, and the best choice for you first before pivoting to something less preferable. So, for example, if you're craving flexibility at work, ask for what you really want, the ability to work remotely.
