- So even though it may not be about money, specifically, projects are a great thing to negotiate over because they have a lot of factors. And these are all tradeables. These are all ways to find a win-win between you and your boss. So rather than just a "Yes, I'll do it," or "No, I won't" kind of showdown with your boss, which is bad for both of you, tradeables can be found. And the key is to prepare plenty beforehand so that it's easy to trade when you're talking to your boss about the project. So tradeables might be, "Give me longer to complete the job." It might be, "Give me authority to make decisions and spend money if I need to." It might be autonomy. "I'd like to be able to just get on with it and not be checked on all the time and have to ask permission to do things." It might be, "Give me some more people."
