Project scorecards for reporting

- When you're managing a project you need an easy way to keep score. And the easiest way to keep capture your status is with a project scorecard. First, decide what you need to measure. You might want to know things like the status of high level milestones, what's being done this week, and what issues need to be addressed in order to move forward. You might also add sections for tracking the budget, and for monitoring risks. You can do this with a combination of text, with numbers, and with charts. But I always recommend that you limit your scorecard to what can fit on a single sheet of paper. Keeping a scorecard makes it easy to get a quick understanding of the project's status. And it provides a record of the project, like a journal, so that you can see trends and study the project for future learning. There's not a magic formula for what to include on a project scorecard.
