Principles of networking

- Networking isn't about connecting with as many people as possible. It's about being purposeful about the specific shape and purpose our network needs to be to achieve our goals. Good networks each have a purpose. And most of us will have several networks, for example, our career network, our social network, and our professional development network. You must start by being clear about what specifically you're trying to achieve. So start by being clear about the objectives of your network. If the purpose of your network is to maximize your learning about new developments in your professional field, it might be worth going broad and connecting with thought leaders, academics, people in other organizations, and other influencers.
