Priming your presence
- Although the distance covered is exactly the same, the world record for the four by 100 meter relay is always faster than four times the individual 100 meter world record. So, what explains it. In the relay, each person after the first gets a running start to sync up with the previous sprinter as he or she passes the baton. They're already running near full speed when their 100 meters begins. It makes a big difference and it's a difference you can apply to executive presence. For executive presence situations, you can get a running start on all four factors. To do it, we adapt what in psychology is called priming and it's supported by many years of research and it works. Broadly speaking, priming is activating specific associations such as images, words, memories or sounds and those associations influence what you do next.
