- You've made great progress towards developing a winning keynote address. You're almost ready to deliver. But first, let's think about a few last minute issues and your pregame routine. Let me share mine with you so you can adopt your own version. There are really three things I think about before getting on stage. The first involves checking out a few aspects of the venue. If the conference or meeting planner asked to meet you early for a microphone check, be there so you can meet the audio/visual person, and once more, scan the actual room and visualize yourself delivering. And don't be shy, if the room is empty, go hang out on stage or in front of the room for a minute or two to get the feel of the room. Be sure you know where they expect you to be before you're introduced. And ask for water to be available while you're speaking. The second thing is the client specific portion of your talk.
