- [Narrator] So here's how to do compassionate listening. It begins by setting the intention to practice compassionate presence and listening. And setting an intention to notice any tendencies that compete with compassionate presence. So you are agreeing to notice in yourself when your mind wanders and isn't paying attention to the person who's talking. You're agreeing to notice, maybe the desire to pick something up and play with it. And you'll notice any tendency to want to jump in to solve problems, to give advice or to talk about yourself, and to try to mindfully notice those tendencies without giving into them. Once you've set that intention, you can think about your body and what it would mean to listen with the whole body. And if you're in the presence of another person, that could literally mean turning toward them, having that open body language. Arms are not crossed, legs are not crossed. Almost a sense…
