If you provide value greater than the cost of your trip, your employer or client will happily sponsor you for more of them. How can you take what you learned from this trip to improve their ROI in the next one? This video gives you a method to measure your effectiveness, find ways to increase it, and communicate that to stakeholders. It really all comes down to documentation. Ideally, you and your managers discuss the purpose and goals of your trip in email or some other written form. If so, your measure of success is pretty straightforward. It's how well you fulfill that purpose and met those goals. If they wanted specific kinds of reporting or documentation, even better, just give them what they need in the form they want. But if you don't have such specific instructions, you'll just have to roll your own. I recommend sending a simple email that covers the following high points.
