- Partnering with other firms is a great way to build your firm's capabilities without developing those capabilities yourself. If you pick great partners, you can deliver a broader suite of offerings to your clients. I run a leadership development training firm. I don't go out and write all the content myself. I found some great instructors who are wonderful partners. They bring their content to my firm, and we collectively deliver that content to a broad base of clients. Now, partnerships can cut the other way, too. A bad partner that doesn't do great work or doesn't work well with your clients will reflect poorly on your firm and hurt your brand. I had one situation where I was evaluating a partner. He and I didn't see eye to eye on the best way to serve clients. I did not pursue that relationship any further.
