- "Clothes make the man. "Naked people have little or no influence in society." That's actually a quote from Mark Twain. People can debate the accuracy of the statement, but we do know that our clothing is one of the first things people see when they meet us. Our clothing and appearance can be observed long before we are within speaking range of someone. First impressions are critical to making connection, and connection is critical to establishing trust. Whether we totally agree with Mark Twain or not, our personal appearance can influence what people think of us. How we dress is something that's personal to all of us. We each have our own taste and style. An associate of mine loves to wear really colorful socks that aren't really necessarily my style.
