- Have you seen frustration between PMOs and Agile project teams? Probably. That's because when PMOs first appeared, today's Agile approaches didn't exist. Projects were always delivered with traditional or waterfall methods, so that's how PMOs developed. And that makes it hard for PMOs to relate to Agile, the two are just so different. The challenges are multiple, and generally easy to recognize. Project reporting and tracking will cause obvious issues, trying to reconcile burned down charts with Gantt charts. Attempts to improve resource utilization will bump into the concepts of stable agile teams. And of course, there'll be uncertainty about how to effectively support scrum masters and product owners. Most PMOs lack any reference points to support Agile, and Agile teams may not want the PMOs support anyway.
