- Taking pride in ownership of the work your team delivers is a key factor in creating a culture of accountability. How do you get teammates to take ownership? This isn't something you can force. You can't make people feel ownership or responsibility for your team. Instead, you can foster this by creating an environment where your team feels invested in the outcomes of their work. Whenever you can, remove hierarchies. On most teams, they exist. Either formally or informally. Some teammates may perceive others to have more power, because they have more longevity with the company, an advanced degree, or a higher title. Encourage your team to work democratically, side-by-side in your problem-solving and work completion. You know your team has potential.
