- [Instructor] Do you like animals? Would you like to spend your days working with them? Well, then good news. There's a growing need for kindhearted, compassionate, skilled veterinary technicians, or vet techs, for animal health care. It's a job that has a wide variety of duties and requires a unique combination of personal characteristics and skills. And maybe it's a job that's right for you. A day in the life of a vet tech begins with the morning report, which lays out the day's scheduled surgeries, routine visits, and your assignments. From there, your day will include doing patient assessments. You'll weigh the animal. You'll take the vital signs, the temperature, heart rate, and respiration. You'll also help restrain the animal during the exam and other procedures. Vet techs assist with surgeries, run lab tests, take and process x-rays, and they may help with dental cleanings.
