Overview of the medical assistant role

- As a medical assistant, you'll be an important member of the clinical team. You'll be hands-on working directly with the patients, so let me tell you what that entails. Medical assistants work in a doctor's office or clinic. So you'll keep regular office hours. You'll begin your day by calibrating instruments, setting up blood labs, making sure that all the lab equipment is in good running order. You'll also clean and disinfect the exam rooms. Then you look at the schedule for the day and try to anticipate what the doctor will need for their procedures, and get those things ready. You'll also be responsible for making sure that supplies are stocked and reordered. Once the patients arrive the day will get busy, so good time management skills are important.
