- As you prepare to put your futurist skills to work, a word of warning. A certain level of organizational resistance is to be expected. Have you ever had a bold, disruptive, game-changing idea, then proudly shared it with a colleague, and, you know where this is going. "That's a great idea," they say, "but it would never happen here." And even if they don't say it out loud, they're likely thinking it. "Yeah, but our three-year plan is already in place." "Yeah, but we don't have the resources." "Yeah, but the board would never go for it." Yeah but, yeah but, yeah but. Without placing blame, this is the way organizations typically think. Organizations are wired to protect what is known, and create incentives to deliver on short-term, measurable results.
