- Your ability to influence is linked to your ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships. Trust is developed and strengthened when people share common values, or have aligned interests, are perceived as genuine, reliable, and competent, and communicate in a transparent manner. As an HR pro, you have to leverage emotional intelligence to build trust among your colleagues within the confines of that model. Building trust-based relationships allows you to navigate through organizational politics and influence decisions and outcomes of your company. For example, working to increase employee engagement can lead to more innovation, and eventually, better financial gains. Modern leadership approaches focus on transformation and authenticity.
