- Sure, you're operating in an organizational structure that may or may not have clear lines of reporting. But, as a leader smack in the middle, the work you manage might not neatly fit within that structure. This is why you need a game plan to help you navigate complicated organizational structures. First, map out a mini-org chart for your work. This has you at the top and everyone or area in your organization you work with is connected below you. As you map out your personal org chart, make sure you draw solid and dotted lines for direct reporting relationships. As you consider who to include, analyze your networks. Consider the following questions. One, who do you depend on to accomplish your work? And two, who in the organization depends on you?
