- Novelty is something we enjoy when it's nonthreatening. Children prefer new toys to familiar old ones. Rats quickly explore newly opened cage areas. And who doesn't love and remember a training course where something different happens? Novelty is also very sticky. You don't remember the ordinary days, just the extraordinary ones. It's also evolutionary adaptive. Originally, when we explored new environments, if we learned to adapt to them and survived, we were rewarded with dopamine, which made us feel good. This created a virtual circle, where novelty promoted better learning, is memorable, and becomes addictive. Here are five novel ideas you can test out to make your training stickier.
