Moving forward after a termination

- After you let someone go, it's time to address your team. The first issue is deciding how to talk about what just happened. Unfortunately, managers often avoid this task. They don't like conflict, or maybe they just think it's not appropriate. Not so. It's avoiding that issue that causes problems. It makes the team draw assumptions about why this happened. This ambiguity results in fear. Some people will wonder if they're next. So now productivity suffers. You can also hurt your reputation. You can be seen as too secretive, cold or disconnected from the team. Instead, be proactive. Gather everyone and be direct.
