- Without question, the most common bad pitch I hear is the, "Stop me when you hear something you like pitch." It may be a beautifully written resume or a well articulated elevator pitch but when I read it or hear it, I'm thinking, "Where is this person going with this? Who are they trying to appeal to?" Without a specific audience in mind, a pitch like this has no purpose and produces no results. That's why one of the most important steps in planning your career return is determining where you're going and what type of hiring audience you're trying to attract.
