(upbeat music) - If you're watching this, chances are you're in charge of creating some sort of training for a group of adults. You know, most of our formal education in training was when we were younger, in high school or in college. And if you remember back then, there were really two types of courses that you took, required or elective. Now, required courses, those were exactly what they sound like. They were courses you were required to take in order to graduate or to get a degree. But electives, these were courses you took because you wanted to take them. The subject sounded interesting or fun. Now, no matter if the courses you're creating are required or elective, the goal is to make them feel like they're electives. You want people to want to learn the content that you have. When people want to learn, they learn faster. They retain that information more. They're able to apply it better, and they become advocates for the content that you have, helping to teach and train other people. Understanding what's intrinsically valuable to that adult, what actions or behaviors influence their response to something, those become value triggers. And those value triggers are incredibly valuable to you as a creator, as a maker. Understanding your audience is just as important as the content that you create. So as you embark on this journey, as you start to think about the training you're creating, take the minute to understand who your audience is. Find out what it is that motivates them so that you can create stronger learning strategies.
