- It's not unlikely that some of your young employees have parents that pay for most everything for them, and the job they have with you, well that's just for a little extra spending money. This is one challenge of many with millennials today, and this can result in low motivation to serve your customers, your company, and your team. The question becomes, how do you motivate and inspire young retail employees. A couple of years ago, I got to visit the headquarters of one oof the largest retailers in the country to find out what was working for them. Their brand is synonymous with excellent customer service. I noticed that there were a lot of young employees that worked for the company. I also noticed that they were inspired to treat customers and each other like they were special. They listened and cared about each other.
