- If you find yourself chronically overspending or feeling super guilty when you spend, it's probably not because you lack self-control or don't know how to have fun. Rather it's likely due to subconscious thoughts, beliefs and feelings often rooted in childhood experiences that impact how you handle money. How you feel about it, how you treat it, and what you do with it. I want to talk through some common money patterns and how they may affect how you handle money. We all observe and learn things about money. And in most cases, we don't even realize it. First, think about how money was portrayed when you were young. Maybe you associate money with conflict because you saw your parents argue about money, or maybe you saw a power dynamic between your parents and money played a role in it.
